Kum Kau Restaurant Review

Kum Kau Restaurant is located at 463-465 Myrtle Avenue at the corner of Washington Avenue. After picking up our son from school, my wife and I decided to pop in to our favorite Chinese spot for a little lunch/ really early dinner.

Atmosphere:  Really well appointed. There are two dining rooms complete with plasma screen TV's and bar. Not crowded mid-day. Service is cordial as our waitress brought extra napkins, cleared empty dishes, and moved the meal along without being intrusive. Most booth seats are separated by frosted glass for extra privacy.

Food: Amazing. Not to be compared to the take out offered next door, the kitchen has a special dining menu exclusive to the restaurant. We did notice a minor price differential from the takeout menu. If you've had Kum Kau before, there is nothing like having the food brought to your table right after preparation. The food is at its best and the kitchen seems to elevate the care it takes with the dining room. We ordered the fried pork dumplings and pork spare ribs as an appetizer. For the main course we had diced chicken in Peking sauce and an order of house special fried rice. Sorry no pictures, we were overwhelmed by the aromatic smell of the dishes, digging in and forgetting about this review.

Bottom Line: Great setting, good food, and never ending black tea. We were huge fans of Brooklyn Heights Chinese dine in restaurants. I'm glad we have an option blocks away from home that quite frankly out spoons the competition. Tell them HistoricBrooklyn.com sent you.
