After School Program at Lucky Lotus to begin Fall '07
Lucky Lotus Yoga, located at 184 Dekalb Avenue, has launched an after school program to begin Fall 2007. The website has all the information on pick up times and programs being offered Monday through Thursday, sorry no Fridays. Everything from outdoor play, snacks, language classes in Japanese, Italian and Spanish, garage band, African drumming, and more are part of the curriculum. I guess depending on the age of your child, the appropriate activity would be matched. Contact Lucky Lotus for details on the pick up situation from the Community Roots Charter School, P.S. 11, and P.S. 20. Maybe you can get rid of the nanny and save yourself a few bucks? The program is priced at $300 per month or $20 per day. Very reasonable. Many parents with school age children struggle with paying a nanny for the whole day, even though the child is attending school for most of that time. If you can get your child to the school, Lucky Lotus will do the rest. Sounds like a deal to me. What do you parents think? Email me and I'll post your comments. Mention HistoricBrooklyn.com when you inquire about the program. HB
BK is Still Hip- A new Children and Maternity Store hits the Hill

Still Hip is located on 283 Grand Avenue between Lafayette Avenue and Clifton Place in the heart of Clinton Hill. It's a high end boutique for gently used children's clothing, shoes, toys, books, carriers, diaper bags, the list goes on. They also cater to the expecting moms with maternity clothing from Pea in a Pod, Pumpkin Maternity, etc.

All to often we run and buy everything new for our first born children and that's to be expected. You have a huge baby shower and end up with bags of newborn one-sees, holiday outfits like the raindeer suit my mother bought my son for Christmas, and tons of socks, tops, and bottoms. When you have the child, reality sets in. You barely get through half of the stuff you received and your child may not fit that expensive Ralph Lauren Polo and shorts set when warmer weather comes around. What do you do with the excess? You, like my loving wife, hold on to them for the anticipated children to come or give them away. Still Hip's concept is simple. Kids grow out of clothing and associated gear faster than a blink of the eye. Why not offer the gently used items to other moms for their benefit. It reduces the retail expense of acquiring these premium brands and you can get store credit for the things you want or need.

Marcie and family                                                                                         Gabby and family

Marcie and Gabrielle are the brains behind this very green, hip concept. They have been working out of Marcie's home and the very successful business is screaming for retail space. They settled on Grand Avenue just next to Grand 275 and Dakar Restaurant. Sorry, the store isn't opened yet. But stay tuned for more information on their big day. They also have a designated part of the store for music, dance, arts and science.

If you like the best for yourself, your kids can Still be Hip, at a moderate cost. HB

Dillon Child Study Center has its Sunfest Celebration May 19, 2007
Struggling with inclement weather and cooler temperatures, the Dillon Child Study Center held its Sunfest outdoors at 11 am. Activity areas were set up around the playground as kids and parents toured the mall for what was offered. There was a cost of $20 per family for admission. Pony and Carousel rides, balloons, and a wide selection of food was available for purchase. They kids were running, playing on mats, getting their face painted, practicing yoga, and even singing along with a band that played Noggin like kiddie songs. It was a great event until the rain came down with a steady pour after noon.

Overall it was a good event. The weather got the best of the early afternoon but you couldn't tell that from how much fun the kids were having. We left the event when the rain was heavy. People were still coming in at that point. So I assume, after the rain subsided, people came out from the shelter of the trees and the party was on once again. HB
