Loulou Restaurant at 222 Dekalb Avenue in Fort Greene is definitely one of Brooklyn’s gems. My wife, young 3 yr old son, and I went to take advantage of the Dine in Brooklyn price fixed menu of $21.12. You would think the pickings would be slim. But we were pleasantly surprised to find a good mix of meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes to satisfy even the most discriminating palate.
Atmosphere: Relaxed. The waitresses, dressed in all black, make sure you want for nothing. Very attentive while giving you enough distance to enjoy your food without feeling rushed or watched. Parents, they have a kids menu as well.
Food: Excellent. Every morsel explodes with flavor. The Grilled Sirloin Steak (medium) melts on your tongue. The taste of rosemary and garlic, served in a red wine demi sauce was magical.
My wife had the Bouillabaisse, slow cooked red curry fin and shellfish stew with aioli. French meets Indian in this dish. She found herself wanting a double portion.
Bottom Line: Close to Perfect. A neighborhood treasure that serves dinner and brunch with a taste rivaling many Manhattan restaurants, except in price. Chef, Lori D’agostino, is sensational and a talent that makes Loulou Restaurant a top pick for sure. No need to take the train or car to the city. A culinary experience, like no other, is right at your doorsteps. Tell them HistoricBrooklyn.com sent you.
